Ponderosa Pine Forests Part 2: Duff Collection Engineering
by Lisa Barnard
This is the second part of this unit on the duff layer in a forest. After learning after duff and its potential impact on forest fires in the last lesson, students will be following the engineering process to create something to collect some of the excess duff in a forest. Students will be designing, testing and reflecting, and redesigning their inventions. Then students will get to weigh the amount of duff their invention collects using a scale and then students will find the average of their data. Finally students will present their invention and data with the class.
