Earth Day Ocean Clean Up

Today students will collaborate to design and engineer a product to contain and clean up an oil spill while saving the affected wildlife.
Today students will accurately complete an itemized receipt.
Today students will write a multi-paragraph passage communicating their oil spill clean up experience, struggles and man made effects on the environment.
The list of materials includes: 1 Make-shift ocean for each group:
1 aluminum (disposable) baking tray, or plastic tray to hold water, oil and other materials
water
feathers(serves as animal)
fur (part of stuffed animal)
lettuce leaf
tree leaf
small sticks or twigs
sand, pebbles
½ cup vegetable oil mixed with 1 Tbsp cocoa powder in separate container with lids (pre-mixed)
optional pitcher to pour water
optional gloves

Rubber bands, paper towels, string, toothpicks, cotton balls, plastic wrap, popsicle sticks, shredded wheat cereal, balloons, cooked rice, grass, cork, suction tube/cooking baster, spoon, sponge, other items.
