Soilless Gardens and the Future of Food

No votes have been submitted yet.

This hands-on lesson is for the use of a hydroponic system. Tower gardens were the systems used, however, if budget is a concern, there is a very affordable option in the plan as well using tanks. Students will need one tank or tower to grow mycorrhizae and fertilizer plants and the other tank or tower for just fertilizer. The mycorrhizae and fertilizer used are both soluble in water and good for hydroponic systems. Many believe that hydroponics will be used for future farms on Earth and is already used in space. However, more testing towards how it will be used is needed. This lesson can be used as an introduction to carbon sequestration, multiple biogeochemical cycles and sustainability/ food/ agriculture.
