Seed sorting, planning and planting (3rd Grade Gardening Lesson 1)
This lesson is the initial planning, sorting, and planting lesson to get Our Plot of Sunshine Curriculum started within a 3rd grade classroom. Can be modified for other grades, but math within this lesson focuses on 3rd level content.
List of Materials
various types of seeds both veggies, fruits, and flowers
grid paper
observation notebook or page
pencil
garden box
watering can
colored pencils/ crayons- optional
popsicle sticks to label where you will plant various plants in garden box
permanent marker to label plant names on popsicle sticks
Agenda- 50 minutes
-Discuss plant needs and current weather conditions- 5 minutes
- Gather supplies to take outside- 5 minutes
- Go out to the garden to measure plants and record observations and plant heights- 20 minutes
- Create graph with plant measurements- 15 minutes
- Discuss and compare observations and cause as to why our gardens are different or similar- 5 minutes
