Water Troughs on the Rez
by Carmen Honyouti
Water Troughs on the Rez is a lesson plan to help students understand the mathematical perspective of everyday items around our homes on the reservation. Students are to share different types of water troughs they will have at home in their corrals. The shapes will be shared by sketches on the board, as a class we can classify what shapes they are. Next we will apply the formula for volume and talk about how families have to haul water to take care of their animals. The lesson will consist of how to find the most efficient model for our livestock, and what would work best for families to save money and time.
