Simple Machines Save the Day
by Arlette Johnson
In this lesson students read about simple machines and learn that simple machines make it easier to lift or move things and that they can change direction and magnitude of force.
Students use LEGOs to build a simple machine to save a LEGO minifigure from a terrible situation in an engineering design challenge.
Students create a poster highlighting the simple machine they designed from LEGOs showing how they saved their LEGO minifigure.
As an extension students can write narratives telling the story of their LEGO minifigure or create an ad promoting the simple machine device they created.
