Part 1: Rotation and Revolution (of Earth)
Part 1: Rotation and Revolution (of Earth)
Phenomenon: Why do we experience periods of day and night?
This is a 1 to 3-day lesson with five activities primarily focusing on rotation of the Earth which is a fifth grade standard. There are three hands-on activities to help solidify the understanding of Earth's rotation and how it leads not only to night and day, but also to changes in time. It includes two ELA lessons, one on rotation and one on revolution. A Venn Diagram activity compares what we see in the sky at night verses during the day. Activity five is an engineering project where students build a moving model of the sun and the Earth.
Part 2: Rotation and Revolution (of the Moon) - link is included!

Engineers often create small-size models of a new product to test its design. This is especially true with airplanes. Model testing tells engineers how a design responds to different air conditions
