Meter Stick Balance Practicum
by Richard McNamara
This lesson can be used as a formative assessment on Static Equilibrium of a horizontal meter stick that has two masses hanging from the meter stick. One of the mass values is provided, the 2nd mass is unknown. Students will measure the lever arms/distance from the fulcrum and solve for the unknown mass. The students then test their predictions by placing the unknown mass on a balance and compare their prediction to the actual value.
