Measure Up! The Power of Standard Units!
by Arlette Johnson
In this lesson students use non-standard units of measurements to measure various objects and graph the length of each object. Students realize that by not using a standard unit of measurement, their measurements are not equal and that this can cause problems when measuring for accuracy. To solve this issue, students move to using a ruler and after graphing the results, see that each group arrived at the same measurement.
