The Heart
Students will conduct a lab activity to gather information about how the heart rate can be affected by rest and by exercising. They will learn how to calculate their own target heart rates using a mathematical formula. Students will learn how to take their own pulses and complete a series of activities to gather data about their resting heart rate and their heart rates after exercising. Students will read an article explaining the structure and function of the heart and the major parts of the circulatory system. Students will answer questions which should ultimately lead to the ability to explain how maintaining a healthy heart helps to maintain body stability throughout their lives.
