Biomimicry STEM Project
by Jenifer Henson
In this lesson, students will learn about biomimicry—the design and production of materials, structures, and systems modeled on biological entities and processes. Students will explore examples of biomimicry in everyday life, then apply the engineering design process to create their own invention inspired by nature.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Define biomimicry and explain its importance in STEM innovation.
Identify real-world examples of inventions inspired by nature.
Apply the engineering design process to solve a problem using biomimicry.
Create and present a prototype inspired by a plant or animal adaptation.
