In this fifth grade lesson plan, students extract DNA after reading about a young girl who is persistent in showing her parents she can be responsible. Students engage in identifying character traits, how those traits and actions can influence a story, and theme. Later, students learn about the importance of DNA and how we can extract it from a strawberry using common household supplies.
