Sailing Down the Road: Part 1
In part one of this two-part lesson series, students will learn about (or review) the force of push and pull and how this applies to energy transfer. Students will gain an understanding of these concepts with the idea of pushing cars. Students will then engage in the Engineering Design Process by designing and building a cardboard car that utilizes a simple wheel and axle made from a straw and Life Savers candies! Students will test and improve their car until it can drive straight forward when pushed. The car will be used in part two of the lesson series where students will design and create a sail for the car.

This is the culminating activity of the 8 part lesson series on simple machines. Students will put together everything they have learned about each individual simple machine to create a complex chain
In this lesson students will: Identify screws in our world; Discuss how screws make work easier; Plan and construct an Archimedes Screw Provide and receive feedback through peer critiques
In this lesson students will: Identify wedges in our world; Discuss how wedges make work easier; Plan and construct a canoe of their own design that incorporates a wedge shape to make it more
