Mystery in Flagstaff
In this lesson students analyze clues that help them make a claim about a phenomenon they are introduced to- a video of ash and debris-filled water rushing down a forest hill in Flagstaff. Students go on a discovery about how the Pipeline Fire in Flagstaff caused the erosion of soil that led to flooding. This lesson ends with a 30 second engineering exercise that helps students brainstorm deeply about the problem(s) these intensifying fires are causing in our own state, and how we can begin to solve them.

This is lesson 2 in a series of 4 lessons about the rainforest. In jigsaw groups, students create a food web about one of the 4 layers of the rainforest on a Google Slide or Prezi. Students go back to
Engineers often create small-size models of a new product to test its design. This is especially true with airplanes. Model testing tells engineers how a design responds to different air conditions
