Modeling Fraction Operations with Parallel Resistor Circuits
Students will explore mathematical rules for combining fractions with unlike denominators by modeling equivalent resistance calculations for resistors wired in parallel electrical circuits. Using a simulation on TinkerCAD, they will select resistor values to calculate the total resistance. This cross-disciplinary investigation into fraction arithmetic concepts through hands-on electronics projects and verification of Ohm's Law relationships will build procedural fluency and conceptual links between mathematics and electrical engineering contexts.

In this lesson students learn about the simple machine screw, specifically the Archimedes Screw, and engineer a device that can lift a marble.
Students will build a paper marble run out of recycled paper which maximizes the time of travel. Students will then analyze the run with energy diagrams and determine how much energy was lost.
Making a wave machine to learn about the parts of the wave. This is the foundational learning piece before heading into the seismic building challenge.
