Energy Efficient Home Challenge Lesson 2 of 4
This is lesson 2 of a 4 lesson unit. Students will apply the engineering design process with a problem scenario focusing on thermal energy efficiency in a home. The unit incorporates collecting climate data for two Arizona counties, researching thermal energy transfer concepts and insulative properties of materials, use and application of infrared imaging and thermometers, engineering in collaborative teams, testing and taking data for prototype design and team presentation of design solutions. The unit materials contain student worksheets, team presentation template, and a google slides presentation with additional support materials.

Students will learn about the difference between potential and kinetic energy by building a ramp. Three objects will be tested down the ramp to see which one can go the farthest. Data will be
Students will use the projects from lessons 2 and 3 to analyze the data of the electric cars they made. They will identify the variables in their cars and plan improvements to their designs.
Students will use geometric reasoning and the engineering design process to construct solar ovens while learning about renewable energy.
