Building a Hogan with Body Measurements
by Rolene Dugi
An Arizona 3rd grade standard is to learn about Arizona tribes' ways of living and how they depend on their environment to shape their world.
In this hands-on lesson, students will use their hands, forearm, body height and hand span to measure a hogan they'd like to build one day but they'll need to create a miniature version of their design. Students will also take measurements of the inside of their hogan after its dried for a couple of days and understand how natural materials used result in a cooler home during the summer and warm in the winter.
