Build a Better Catapult
This multi-day activity is designed for introductory 5th grade STEM after school club. On Day 1, each student will build and test a simple straw rocket following the teacher’s instructions. Students will record procedures, materials, and data in their STEM notebook. For Days 2-3, partners or teams will design, build, test, and modify a straw rocket that will travel the greatest distance using only one breath as energy for propulsion. Students will learn about forces and motion by building a straw rocket. They will measure how far their rocket flies and then build a second rocket to see if they can make it go farther.
This lesson give emphasis on the systems A and B of the chemical reaction that represent the reactants and products. This also focuses on investigating not just the system involved in the chemical
