The Most Magnificent Thing Design Challenge

This STEM activity is designed to be used after reading "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires. Students will plan and create an invention to solve a real world problem.

Material needed: The book "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires. Various building materials like Keva Planks, snap blocks, pipe cleaners, Legos, popsicle sticks, colored construction paper (or any other building materials you have available). Blank paper to draw out a plan, pencil, masking tape, and scissors.

Agenda:

Introduce, or review, the Engineering and Design Process with students before beginning the lesson. (If you don't have it in your classroom, it is easily found online.)

Read: "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires (Discuss as you read)

Students will collaborate with group members and make a plan to solve a real world problem.

Present your idea to the class.
