Hydroponics in the Classroom

Hydroponics in the Classroom
This lesson is divided into three parts introduction, exploration and reflection/making connection. The first part is discussing and providing ideas to students about hydroponics and its history in the form of inquiry and video showing. The second part includes exploring hydroponics. Placing students into groups and how they set - up their hydroponics system and finally how they will work out their assigned tasks weekly to monitor their plants growth. Seeds provided for them are cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes and peppers. On this part, they are expected to work collaboratively to make sure their plants are growing. On the last part is making connections, where they are giving their reflections on how the plants grow in hydroponics method and how they see hydroponics can help them. They will be sharing these with the rest of the class. Assessments will be in the form of writing and drawing based on the sharing they got and answered to the questions: What is hydroponics? How plants grow hydroponically? What are the benefits of growing plants using hydroponics system in your area?
