Engaging Classroom Math Activities & Online Resources

PD Hours 5.00

Registration begins at 8:30 AM

Event begins 9 AM

We will take a break for lunch.

Parking is located on the west side of campus, entrance off Thomas Rd.

Participants will receive classroom materials to implement the activities with their students.

Join us for a day of interactive math activities and web resources that can easily be adapted for science classes, too!

In the morning we will introduce and practice at least 3 of the following activities (depending on audience interest and time). Be prepared to think like a student and enjoy the beauty of math while you collaborate with your teammates. There will be templates and time built in to modify for your classroom so that you can immediately implement these activities into your toolkit:

1) Instructional Conversations - ensure structured student talk while building vocabulary skills and practicing math (or science) concepts.

2) Summative Posters – you may already have students demonstrate posters but up your game and make assessment easier with detailed rubrics and assigned group roles

3) Number/Dot Talks – you may have heard of these but learn how to implement them successfully

4) Menu Review Activity – provide student choice and get students up and moving around the room in this low floor/high ceiling activity while they review important concepts at a level that is comfortable to all.

In the afternoon we will peruse some online math resources including the online graphing calculator Desmos and a variety of logic sites such as Which One Doesn’t Belong, Solvememobiles, and more. If you have a favorite that is not featured, please bring it to share with the group!
