Earth Science From The North Atlantic (Session #2)

PD Hours 1.00

Join DaNel Hogan, the Waters Center’s Chief Learning Officer, aboard the JOIDES Resolution as she sails across the north Atlantic Ocean. The JOIDES Resolution is a research vessel that drills into the ocean floor to collect and study core samples. Scientists use data from the JOIDES Resolution to better understand climate change, geology, and Earth’s history. It is a part of the International Ocean Discovery Program and is funded by the National Science Foundation. DaNel will be participating in a program called School of Rock while aboard the ship, as she and other educators from around the United States come together to find creative ways to empower science teachers and learners to use ocean drilling data.

You can join DaNel on this STEMAZing adventure as she hosts uplinks from the ship. Learn about the experiences she is having, tour the ship, learn how it drills cores out of the ocean floor, and peek inside the labs on the ship conducting awesome earth science research!
