6th Grade Science: Space & Beyond

Event Details: This phenomena based unit includes most of the Earth and Space science standards for sixth grade. You will learn how to use modeling through a 5E lesson plan to teach moon phases, eclipses, tides, and components of the solar system. You will walk away with a class set of all of the materials ready to jump in and teach! Grade Focus: 6th Grade PD Hours: 12 hours Date: May 30-31, 2024 Time: 8am-3pm (lunch included) Location: Stapley Junior High School 3250 E Hermosa Vista Dr Mesa, AZ 85213 Cost/Commitment Fee: $35 for ASTA members; $50 for Non-ASTA members Organizer: Deeper Dive Unit Writers: Mandy Heal and Jamie Rapkiewcz; Ambassador: Sundra Nickerson Benefits of Participation: · Resource to implement unit in your classroom (~$200 worth of materials) · Lifetime membership to ASTA ($250 value) · Transportation Stipend 50+ miles - 99 miles one way = $250; 100+-149 miles one way = $300; travel 150+ miles one way = $250 for mileage +$100 for lodging -- totaling $350 · Follow-up Session at ASTA Conference - supported to attend with free registration ($225 value) · $300 Stipend ($200 for attending workshop; additional $100 for providing feedback of unit and/or /implementing the unit Bring devices and charges, reusable water bottles Be prepared for air conditioning Dress professionally Please bring the completed W9 (linked here) with you to the workshop If you live 50+ miles from the workshop location please use a map image to document your mileage for reimbursement.
